This my Christmas Story

  The Christmas Story

The Angel Gabriel: God sent Angel Gabriel to a young girl in nazareth. Elizabeth married Zechariah.

Joseph: Joseph was worried when Mary was pregnant with a  baby. The angel said to Joseph “Don’t be scared to be with Mary”.

The Journey to Bethlehem:

Mary and Joseph were part of the Roman Empire. Joseph and Mary traveled 70 miles (113 kms) from Nazareth to Bethlehem.

The birth:

Mary gave birth to the new born baby called Jesus.

The Shepherds:

The Shepherds went to Bethlehem to see Mary and Joseph.

The Three Wise Men:

The Three Wise Men liked the stars. The Three Wise Men followed the star to the city Judea.

Joseph Dream:

The Angel was in Joseph's dream the Angel said “Get up Joseph, take Mary and the new born baby because King Herod is going to kill the new born baby”.

Herod:

The king of Judea is king Herod. King Herod heard that someone was going to take his place as King of Judea. King Herod made an evil plan and the evil plan was to kill the new born baby Jesus.

Joseph and Mary and the new born baby went to Egypt. In Joseph's dream the Angel said to Joseph “Get up, take Mary and the new born baby with you because King Herod is going to kill the newborn baby.

So Mary and Joseph went back to their old town of Nazareth.

Reading labels of packets - Supermarket Visit

Last week we went to the New World Supermarket as a class. Our goal was to read labels accurately and to make comparisons. We had to compare the amount of fat, sodium, sugar, dietary fibre, and calcium in food.

Matariki Information Report

 ]Matariki Report

What is Matariki ?

Matariki is the Maori name for the cluster of stars known as the pleiades and rises in midwinter.

What does the name Matariki mean and what is the Maori myth behind Matariki?

According to myth, when Ranginui the Sky Father and Papatuanuku the Earth Mother were separated by their children Tawhirimatea got so mad that he tore his eyes out and threw them into the heavens.

Matariki is a time for dancing, singing and Feasting. Matariki was a wonderful time but the celebrations stopped in the 1940’s.

Taking notes: Matariki is the name for the Maori new year. One night they disappeared from the night sky in Aotearoa. It is a time for hearing stories about the past. Matariki is for me to be with friends and family.

Samoan Language Week's Umu Recount

Samoan Language Week

 Writing plans

  Umu

Food - Pig Pork, Raw Fish, Taro, Chop suey, Banana, Seafood, Pork Buns, Taro leaves

Teachers, Mr.T, Mr Tyrell

Recount

On Friday we had a Samoan Umu. On Friday that was Miss Haslems last day at Christ The King School and the people helping were Mr T, Mr Tyrell,Aden and Ayla’s parents, and Joseph’s parents. When the people were eating the Umu they put the rocks and then they put the food over the hot rocks and then they put the newspaper on top of the food.

After Room 6’s assembly we went back to class and then after we were done learning Mr Tyrell came to us and said “ does your class want to come to see to pack up the Umu?” The people that were picking up the Umu were Mr Tyrell, Mr T and Joseph's parents. After the Umu was packed up we had to go outside to the Juniors playground and we were singing the Samoan national anthem.

After we were singing the national anthem Mr Tyrell said to the teacher, ``Can you take your class to the Umu in the hall”?. All of the classes were walking down the hall and by the time we were in the hall we had to sit down. After the classes were sitting down Mr Tyrell was saying a speech or a prayer in Samoan. By the time when Mr Tyrell says a speech or a prayer Mr Hadnett said we will go class by class but we will start with room 6 first and then the other classes will go after room 6.

By the time every class got their food they went to eat outside or in the hall. After the classes were eating, when they finished their plate they went to get some more food on the plate. The food that we ate was Pig Pork, Taro, Raw Fish and Chop Suey. After the whole school was finished eating we went to play and we were playing basket-ball with Miss Haslem. And then  the bell rang and then we had to go to class.

By the time we went to class the time was 2.33pm and we had to pack up and go to get our bags and come to the mat to say prayer. After we said prayer Our class and Miss Paton gave a present to Miss Haslem and then she opened it and there was chocolate and a book and there was a card but Miss Haslem read the card out to us. After she finished reading out the card to us she gave Miss Paton a gift. She opened it and there was chocolate and a key chain. When Miss Paton finished opening her gift Miss Haslem gave the whole class a bag of chocolate and lollies inside the bag after she gave us the bag we went to line up and go home.
